An allegory often presents an idea through an image of a heroic figure. On this medal, St. George on horseback illustrates the physical and mental strength necessary to achieve victory. The horse and rider trample the Prussian shield, skull and cross-bones.
Of the 650,000 members of the Canadian Expeditionary Forces, 427,993 were issued this medal. It was possible to receive this medal alone, but it would usually be accompanied by the Allied Victory Medal.
