Molière in the New World
From October
16, 2001 to May 20 2002
The McCord Museum celebrated the 50th anniversary season of
Montreal’s Théâtre du Nouveau Monde
(TNM) with a collaborative
exhibition that delighted history and theatre buffs alike.
Featuring an innovative exhibition design by well-known set-designer
Danièle Lévesque, Molière in
the New World delved into the world of the theatre, and highlighted
the importance of this 17th-century playwright’s works throughout
the TNM’s half-century of history. Visitors to the exhibition discovered classic characters such as Tartuffe
and l’Avare, and met some of Quebec’s best loved classical
actors. This behind-the-scenes
glimpse of the sets, costumes, props and characters of the theatre enchanted visitors of all ages.
