Exchanging Views: Quebec Photos 1939-1970

December 2, 1999 - March 19, 2000

Michel Lambeth
The parish of St. Nil, Matane County, Gaspé, May 1965

This exhibition, organized by the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, examines the visual portrayal of Quebec society between the onset of World War II and the October Crisis of 1970. These two historic upheavals define the period of the Quiet Revolution, which reshaped Quebec society and its institutions. 59 photographs taken by 26 photographers throughout these 3 important decades shed new light on a society in a state of transformation.
