Montreal,
February 11, 2000 — Exchanging
Views: Quebec 1939-1970. Organized and circulated by the
Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography (CMCP), an affiliate
of the National Gallery of Canada, the exhibition examines the
visual portrayal of Quebec society between the onset of World
War II and the October Crisis of 1970, a period during which the
Quiet Revolution completely transformed the face of Quebec
society and its institutions.
During
these three decades, photos taken by visiting and Quebec
photographers bear witness to a society in a state of flux.
Curator Pierre Dessureault made a selection of outstanding
visual documents — some hidden in archives for decades, some
never printed before — to bring to light this important period
of our shared past.
The 59 photographs by 26 photographers are on display until March 19, 2000. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue on sale at the McCord Boutique. Exchanging Views will travel to the Centre d'art de Baie Saint-Paul (April 15 - June 11, 2000).
