A
TRIBUTE TO MAURICE RICHARD
at the McCord Museum

Montreal, 10 April 2002 There are some people who will never be
forgotten. Maurice Richard is certainly one of these. He was a
people's idol, a hero, and in his lifetime he received countless
awards. Recognized for his pride, perseverance and fighting
spirit, the McCord Museum pays tribute to him today.
April 11 to 14, 2002, fans of Maurice Richard and hockey lovers
are invited to view memorabilia from Maurice Richard's own
collection and to watch two films recounting his remarkable
career: Le Rocket Document souvenir and Histoire du
Rocket,
produced by the Réseau des sports (RDS). Among the objects on
display in the Museum's Atrium are several of the trophies he
received in the course of his career, including the Hart Trophy
and the Prince of Wales Trophy; sweaters from different eras;
hockey sticks of particular significance, such as the one with
which he scored his 500th goal and his 50 game-50 goal stick;
and important documents, such as press clippings, photographs,
posters and even a contract and letter signed by Maurice Duplessis.
During the press conference that launches this special occasion a
symbolic object from the Richard collection a Canadiens
sweater worn by the Rocket will be presented to the Museum by
the Richard family.
A Tribute to Maurice Richard takes place at the McCord Museum from
April 11 to 14. Entrance to this presentation is free.
