After Notman

Photographs taken by the William Notman (1826-1891) studio immortalized Montreal between 1860 and 1935. In 1999, Andrzej Maciejewski took on the challenge of rephotographing various sites around the city, faithfully reproducing conditions as they were when Notman's photographs were taken. Compare the Notman and Maciejewski images and see how Montreal has changed over the years.

You can also view these pairs of images through the lenticular screen. Move to one side and then the other, and you will see Montreal at two different times.

You will find some other historical photographs of Montreal as you head toward the McCord Museum, located at the corner of Sherbrooke West and Victoria.
